My day started out at the view point below the gondola in the city of Christchurch which is located central in the South Island. With beautiful landscape surrounding the city there are many opportunities to escape the construction site this is the city center at the moment after the major earthquakes that distoryed the city almost 7 years ago. Rebuild is still very much a thing happing down town although progress is being made.
Coming down from the gondola look out and driving along the road I saw a sign that said art museum and thought I would check it out. Little did i know the road would lead me to the cutest little street in the area. with trees lining the street and it being autumn time so the leaves were turning a beautiful rust colour. Cute old cottage homes with my favourite coating of weatherboard and wrap around balconies.
If your ever doing a road trip through the south island of New Zealand (which you should definitely do ) please make your way to the cute street that has stolen my heart, especially if its in Autumn which for New Zealand is around March time.
At the end of the road I found the cutest little church at first I though was abandoned even though it was in good condition. So I drove around and found out that it was open to go inside and a gentleman who was there looking after the place said it had actually been moved from on top of the hill years before to where is is now and that it is said to be one of the last standing church buildings of its kind. There were a few rose gardens out the front and church services are still being held every Sunday.
I am so glad that when I was last in Christchurch visiting family I had the change to wonder around areas I have explored before because it just goes to show there are gems in your own back yard! It doest always take crazy trip to being you to some beautiful areas if you are willing to seek them.
