+ Travel in a world of adventures

Day 84 (28th Feb 2016) A day full of temples ! Woke up 4:30 am and woke up the others. We left at 4:45am to get a tuk tuk to the first temple of Angkor Wat. My excitement was just exploding. Getting to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World is just unbelievable. Arrived in darkness, those who were prepared brought torches, but I just clung to the others hoping not to trip and fall on my face. We walked right up to the entrance and waited, thousands of people were queuing to see the flowers to open at dawn. I couldn't believe so many people woke up before the sun. Finally I saw light and colour behind Angkor Wat. I watched the first glimpses of light appear over the top of Angkor Wat temple then saw the whole sky turn a vibrant orange. It was honestly breathtakingly beautiful. I just wanted to watch it forever, wish I could live in Siem Reap purely to see that every morning.
I was first person to be let through the gates to be let into the temple. It was so liberating at first with it being so quiet inside, so old but yet still so strong. People started drifting in and before long it was full with a mix of cultures all holding cameras up trying to get the best angle. I walked around nearly every part of the Temple before I would allow myself to move on. We walked along the big path between the gardens and over the bridge to meet our tuk tuk driver there and have breakfast before we left for the second temple of the day (Faces).
This temple is known for its unique faces around the temple. It is not as big as Angkor Wat but is more relaxing and peaceful. You are able to sit in the windows for a decent amount of time to just take in the spectacular surroundings. Less people more peaceful. Last of the main temples is Ta Prohm also known as the tree temple. This was made famous and known by the public almost 14 years ago when Angelina Jolie went there to shoot a film. It was absolutely amazing that I just wish I could come back tomorrow at sunrise while everyone is at Angkor Wat and enjoy the beauty in silence. You have to shuffle through each part of the temple. Not sure if we just got there at a busy time but it was packed ! We were absolutely exhausted by now. It was still before lunch but walking around and exploring all morning has been draining on the body. So we went back to where we were staying to rest. Some had a little nana nap before we thought we better go grab lunch before getting the mini bus back. Lunch took a little longer than we thought and we ended up getting the slowest tuk tuk driver in the whole of Siem Reap. We were in a rush and he was on a Sunday afternoon cruise. Anyway we made it back grabbed our things as now we were 5 minutes passed the time the bus was scheduled to leave and we were still at the accommodation. We arrived at the bus station by the skin of our teeth almost missing the bus. A mini-van in 40 degree heat with no air con and packed with people is not fun. After 6 uncomfortable hours of a cracked neck, sore bum and just sweet we make it back to Phnom Penh. My wonderful short trip to Siem Reap is over and it back to normality tomorrow. xx Kirsty Claire xx
