Day 63 (7th Feb ) Final goodbyes. Today I have arrived at Bangkok with Sunny poking his head through the curtains saying “Morning - time to get up” and all the train staff walking through the cabins banging on the beds yelling “Wake up - get out if bed” ! The most annoying thing just repeated over and over again. The sun had not even risen so my body was like why am I awake ? Anyway so we arrive in Bangkok to walk over to the Bangkok Central hotel which is feeling all too familiar and wait for our bodies to wake up a little before we head out to try and find some place that is open at this time of morning. The hotel restaurant next door is open so we decide to go there for some breakfast and feed our hungry tummies. Once back at the hotel Sunny is kind enough to allow me to shower in his cousin’s room so I can feel at least half decent. Nothing like a warm shower to make me feel human again.
We head out to a shopping centre to grab some lunch and plan to meet back at the hotel at 12:00. When the girls and I decide to take a tuk tuk back to be faster we see Sunny standing on the side of the road outside our hotel with his arm out calling for a taxi. We yell out trying to make him see us so we can say good bye. As we jump out of the tuk tuk Sunny’s taxi arrives we have to say the fastest goodbyes ever before he hops in the cab off to catch his flight back home to Chiang Mai. I loved having Sunny as a tour guide although he was more like a big brother I never had. I am so grateful to have met him and hope to see him one day in the future as it is sad to say goodbye, I had no time to prepare myself. That’s the hard part about travelling, it’s amazing meeting so many different people from around the world but then I form friendships that I feel I’m just getting to know them and then have to say goodbye.
Once the sad part is over Amy, Rebecca and I grab our bags and head for the airport. We catch an underground train and then another train above ground to the airport which I have roughly an hour and a half to get to. I stay with the girls for them to cheek in and then say goodbye when they go through customs as my flight is later than theirs leaving at 5:30pm. I go and find my check in desk with Bangkok Airways where I’m told I can use the lounge on the 3rd floor after customs. I try and find a place that will convert some of my money into Cambodian money but all say no. I walk around trying to find somewhere to eat and what to use my change that I cannot exchange. When I turn around after walking for a fair amount of time I see the girls again. What are to odds that in the whole of Bangkok Airport I see these girls again ! We all go for a bit of a wonder before I drop them at their gate again and say our final goodbyes again.
I find the lounge and have some free food which is some sandwiches, popcorn, mini rice crackers and other little snacks. I find my gate after the plane was delayed by about half an hour. I gaze out the plane window not wanting to leave my dream land but the wheels lift off and I am in the sky before I can change my mind.
It’s a quick flight being only 45 minutes. I touch down in Cambodia and get all excited to be here. Visa on arrival was not too bad then went through customs to collect my bag and had a lady by the name of Verity waiting for me at the airport with a tuk tuk to take me 20 minutes into Phnom Phen. I am now crashing and looking forward to having a good night sleep.
