+ Travel in a world of adventures
Read my full day to day blog of my first big overseas solo trip.
Day 23 (29th Dec ) It is my first full day staying with the Blewett family since I was a little girl, although last night was so easy and really natural with us slipping back into best friend mode and talking late into the night. I can’t help but worry today might be a bit awkward with her friends she knows so well and hasn't seen for the last couple of months since travelling too.
We get ready with kitting ourselves with camping chairs and umbrellas and pasting ourselves with sunblock in preparation for the long day ahead watching a test cricket match between South Africa and England. As we walk through the giant gates at the bottom of the driveway I feel our connection get lost in amongst her friends and I just know the vibe of the day has changed. We arrive in the stadium after all squishing into the tiniest car and head over to the grass area to set up for the day ahead watching the test match. We choose to sit on the grassed area as for we had brought camping chairs and umbrellas. Unfortunately as the day went on it got hotter and hotter with humidity rising as well and me sitting there watching a sport I had no idea what was going on.
I had agreed to go with Sarah as she seemed pretty keen and she wanted to see her friends there. We have been best friends since as long as I can remember we did everything together from ballet to Sunday school, to learning how to swim and since leaving South Africa we have been able to stay connected through letters and the help of social media.
Once the day of cricket had come to a close we got dropped off at the stop before her home, at the home of a guy called Alley. His house was beautiful with a lovely back yard and pool and his granny was a sweet lady very easy to talk to. Sarah, Alley and I had a swim and then walked over to a small centre of shops where my mom used to own a retail store when we lived in South Africa. Memories came flooding back from my childhood and growing up in this area. It looks so different yet at the same time so much the same. The day didn't turn out too bad after learning a little of how the game of cricket works and watching the live match up close.
