Day seven 12th Dec 2015:
Sand everywhere ! Waking up after an eventful day yesterday. Last night all three of us cousins had to squish into one king size bed.
We started off the day by watching the sunrise over the sand dune that we boarded down yesterday. This morning we were all wrapped up in a thick blanket as even though it is scorching hot in the day, the morning and nights are a tad on the chilly side. We headed to breakfast which was once again an enormous buffet with pancakes, cereals andfruit. This enticed us to fill ourselves up to the brim with food (as that’s what the tradition with a buffet is - eat until you cannot eat no more).
After laying around for a bit and soaking up the beauty of the desert and the contrast in colour between the top of the dunes and the blue sky we started our active day with a camel ride which was just incredible. They are such odd yet fascinating creatures. The ride was surprisingly comfortable with the owners placing feather blankets on them like saddles.
Time for some more dune bashing ! I had a go at driving my first left hand drive car. Luckily it is in the desert where there is nothing to crash into but sand ! In saying that I did attempt at driving a massive dune and having the task of going fast enough not to get stuck but slow enough not to crash. It was exhilarating when you are put in a position that is challenging and takes you out of you comfort zone -you get a rush that goes through you.
After surviving my driving we headed back for Muscat.
Three hours later we were back in the city, back home and exhausted. A nice family barbecue was lit and dinner was ready a couple of minutes later.
My eyes were drooping and I was ready for bed.
Tomorrow will be a sad but exciting day as leave my family and head to my next destination.
