+ Travel in a world of adventures
Read my full day to day blog of my first big overseas solo trip.
Day 53 (28th Jan ) 2nd day hiking today is the longest day hiking I have done in a long time my feet are throbbing. We set out bright and early through the bush into a tiny little track that looked as though only a few people had adventured through. Only a few moments in there were some local woman cutting down a massive tree and had made a fire from the bamboo and made drinking cups from the bamboo, I thought it was so resourceful. 3 hours of walking and we stop for our first break of the day. Walked through some rice fields and over rivers and up a massive rocky area. It was a long day walking total over 7 hours.
We finally arrived at our destination which was another cute village town next to a riverside. We all felt sweaty and gross so we were told there was a shower under the house. What they really meant there was a freezing cold ice bucket and water under the house that you can pour over yourself to get clean. Only I and a few others braved the cold "shower". We all are now sitting on the deck when someone yelled out elephants! I thought he was kidding but I turned around and there they were wading through the water coming in our direction. I jumped out of my chair so fast to run down to the water’s edge to see them go past but they just kept coming our way and eventually stopped on the river bank. I held out my hand and touched its rough skin with bristle hairs and it reached for me with its trunk. Now everyone came down and brought fruit to feed them. They would take the fruit with their trunks curl it into their mouth and swallow it whole.
After being amazed by the elephants we went back up for dinner which was masimun curry which is my favourite so far before playing a game called ping pong pa and if you made a mistake then Oolala would come and put ash on your face. I ended up with a black patch around my eye and a moustache. Tonight my back is so sore I feel like a grandma some days. I seriously don’t know how some grandmas do it I have so much respect for all the old people in the world right now. I can’t even touch my toes I’m so sore. Anyways good night
