Day 73 (17th Feb ) Woke up early to say goodbye to Nadia and Shane as they leave for home today. Luckily they live in New Zealand so will hopefully try and catch up with them soon. I could not go with them to the airport as I had a class at 9:30am.
For lunch I stayed here and ate with the girls that were left. After I had to teach a class which was my most challenging yet. It started off with just two students, one was very quiet so never tells me if he understands or not. When I ask him a question he just looks at his friend to be told the answer in khmer. I tried to tell him he will not learn if he doesn't try to understand in English. If he does not try and read and let me help him he will not be able to learn and always have to rely on others. To top the class off two more advanced students joined the class as Rosie was taking Jess to the airport because she was leaving too. They were just so naughty everything I said, or the other students said, they would just laugh and talk in khmer. I would ask one of the boys a question and they would look to the more advanced students for the answer. They would tell them and then answer and still not even tell me if they understood or not. I definitely do not think I am a natural teacher. I would love to get better and keep on practising but I think I still prefer younger ones 3-6 years old. This class ended at 4:00 pm and my next one started at 4:00pm and went to 5:00pm. I was meant to have a class from 6-7pm but they did not show.
I had been waiting all day to see Parrie tonight. Kaytlin and the girls were kind enough to take me on the moped to her hotel as she is on a new tour in Cambodia. It was so good to finally see her again. We have both done so much in the last two weeks and although we have been keeping in contact we just rattle on for 2 hours talking. We go out to get a fruit shake at a corner cafe. The streets are crazy with ladyboys around, mopeds whizzing past and tuk tuk hooting for a reason a still don’t know. So many Cambodian girls waiting outside of bars for hours for guys to come and pick them up. It’s just so sad. However, we had such a nice evening - it was so short but I’m so glad we were able to see each other, I am lucky to have met her. The girls come and pick me up and take me back to the house. It is now super late so it is bed for me.
