Kaikoura is a small costal town located int the south island of New Zealand about a two and a half hours from the city of Christchurch. It is most known for its wild life and the gorgeous seaside roads that cling to the hill side.
When recently visiting Family we decided to take a road trip along the cost to check out what it had to offer.
New Zealand is one of the best places to do a road trip, I suggest getting a "hippie van " or a more traditional camper van and getting lost in the nature and fresh air of the surrounding mountains. You can go just about anywhere on a clear blue sky day and it will be worth the trip, no need to book a tour as it is known to be one of the safest countries out there.
Be sure to make a few stops along the way, keeping a eye out for our friendly seals who will most likely be having a ball splashing about in the shallows of the rocks or catching a quick suntan drying off not he rocks.
Please note, that they are wild animals and although they are very playful it is best to keep your distance when in contact.
once you have made your way to the beautiful kiwi town of Kaikoura, grab your self a takeaway hot chips or even better Kumera ( or sweet potatoes fries .. some may say) and find yourself a bench with a view.
This images above was taken from a seat at the far end of the main road in the town of Kaikoura.
Take a walk down the main street and support the locals who have suffered from being shut down for months after knowone could access Kaikoura due to a earthquake which hit he area in 2016. There may still be road works to this day however the roadies or roadwork's are famous for being some of the friendliest always waving to those who pass by so be sure to give them and wave of appreciation on your way past.
