Paris has always been one of those destinations that excited me ever since I was little girl. I had posters and title ornaments and photos from my parents travels all around my room and I was fascinated by the city but most of all the grand structure of the famous EIFFELTOWER!
It really is in the heart of the city and is almost viable from anywhere within the centre of town. With this been said I had planned to meet my cousin Robs at the tower for a few hours as she by passed Paris for a few hours coming from South Africa. i was so excited as I hadn't seen her for a few years and although the catch up would be short we of course had to meet up if we were going to be in the same country on the same day let alone the same city. So it was planned and you can guess it our meet up spot was ... the Eiffel Tower... yeah although it can be see and easily found within the city it is not so easy to find someone in the crowd of people flocking to the base of the tower and all all trying to get there glimpse of the grand structure. So the search began with no way of contacting each other and only the reference of the town and her vaguely saying meet you at the front at 1pm .... as you can guess 1pm came and went. I was starting to get worried as Thought main coming from opposite sides of the world to be in the same place but unable to find each other. ekkk . So i decided to do a 360' walk around the base to see if I could see any sign of her, looking through the line of people hoping she had not tried to Que up already. Finally a hour and a bit later I popped myself down on the grass in a clearing near the side that I thought would best be decried as "the front" and just took in the grandness of the structure and hoped for the best. And sure enough 15 minutes later the plan worked and there I saw my cousin running towards me screaming my name saying soooorry my flight was delayed and we had to put our things in storage and I had no way of telling you ( lesson learned) i was just hoping you would still be here and then I looked over and saw your staple pear earnings and knew it was you!!
Lets just say thank goodness I was wearing my pearl earrings as I had also only just cut my hair short and probably looked a lot different than the las time we had seen each other.
The next few days after my Eiffel tower adventure and meet up I spend the day running through the streets of paris with a new friend I meet that moring a my hostel "The 3 ducks" over breakfast. Very good Hostel would highly recommend only 5-10 minute walk from the tower and all the sights are walkable. Nice clean neighbourhood and friendly staff. I stayed in a 4 person dorm and you get a bathroom and bunk bed and locker to lock your valuables. Private rooms are also available.
We ended up doing a loop of the city but sent quite a while at the lovely at "The Louvre, or the Louvre Museum, as it is the world's largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris, France" -wiki It wa so beautiful and surprisingly peaceful enough though it is defiantly a tourist attraction and a line is formed to go into the glass topped museum due to the famous art works inside such as the one and only Mona Lisa Painting and Venus de milo to name a few.
Thats sadly it for my few days in Paris I hope you guys will get a change to explore this beautiful city, it really does have so much to offer with so many things to see, great transportation and I personally had no troubles with the locals I just learn a few words in French prior to arrival and started out staying "sorry my french is not to good" and then they were happy to change over to English. I suggest this method for most places you go as it shows the locals you are willing to make an effort.
Until next time happy travels.
